March 15th, 2020

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

UPDATE 3/16: In response to today’s mandate by Governor Wolf, the Y will be closing all Child Care Programming as of tomorrow, 3/17, until further notice.  Child Care tuition will be credited for the next two weeks for families that have been charged until March 27, 2020.  The Y will continue essential programming operations including free Youth Meal distribution at our Allentown and Bethlehem Branches Monday-Friday from 4:00-5:00pm, our Allentown Warming Station, and our Bethlehem Housing Program for the time being.

UPDATE 3/15: Out of respect for the needs of our members, the Y will automatically credit all members’ accounts for two weeks of membership.  Additionally, any member who may wish to place their membership on hold is encouraged to reach out to your Y Branch via email or phone call.  The Y will re-assess the need to process additional credits, extend holds and our plan of action for future membership drafts before the next drafting period.

At the Greater Valley YMCA, our community’s health and safety is our foremost priority.  In the wake of recent government announcements and mandated closures, the Y has decided to temporarily close our facilities until further notice.  Beginning March 16th, the following Lehigh and Northampton County Ys will close: Allentown, Bethlehem, Easton/Phillipsburg, Nazareth, Suburban North and Slate Belt.

Additionally, we recognize the Y’s key role in providing Child Care options for community members who must continue to work.  Accordingly, all Y Branches and the Forks Education Center will continue to operate Early Childhood Education, Preschool Programming and temporary School Age Child Care as long as we may do so safely, responsibly and in line with prevailing public health advisement.  Other essential services including our Allentown Warming Station and our free Youth Meals Programming will continue to operate for as long as possible.  Please continue checking the Y’s social media and website for real-time updates.

For Our Members:

A reminder that any member who may wish to place their membership on hold is encouraged to reach out to your Y Branch.  Out of respect for the needs of our members, the Y will place memberships on hold for thirty days upon request. After the initial 30 days, the Y will re-assess the need for extended holds.

For Families Relying on Our Child Care:

During these times we recognize Child Care is essential for emergency responders, healthcare professionals and other community members.  The Y will continue operating our Child Care Programming as long as it may do so safely, responsibly and in line with prevailing public health advisement.

Any currently-enrolled Child Care family who may wish to suspend their child’s program attendance is encouraged to reach out to your Y Child Care Site.  Out of respect for the needs of our families, the Y will offer programming credit.

During these unprecedented times, we thank you for your continued support of the Y.  We believe our community is stronger when we all work together towards a common goal.  Right now, our goal is to keep all those we serve safe and healthy, while continuing to provide essential services as long as we may do so safely, responsibly and in line with prevailing public health advisment.  Please continue checking the Y’s social media and website for real-time updates.

Financial Assistance

Every day, we work side-by-side with our neighbors to make sure that everyone, regardless of age, income or background, has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive. At The Y, no child, family or adult is turned away due to an inability to pay.

Financial assistance awards are assessed on a case by case basis during a one-on-one, confidential session with a staff member. Those interested in applying for our financial assistance program are encouraged to download this form, or stop in to any of our branches to learn more and pick up an application.
