Darkness to Light: Preventing Child Sexual Abuse Training
Start: April 24, 2019 6:00 pm
End: April 24, 2019 8:00 pm
The Greater Valley YMCA is marking Child Abuse Prevention Month with Five Days of Action, April 22-26, 2019 and offering a free Darkness to Light training to the community.
Darkness to Light is a nonprofit organization with the mission to empower adults to prevent child sexual abuse through awareness, education, and stigma reduction. Darkness to Light’s flagship program, Stewards of Children®, is an evidence-informed, award-winning training that teaches adults to prevent, recognize, and react responsibly to child sexual abuse. More than 1.7 million adults have been trained using Darkness to Light trainings. For more information on Darkness to Light, visit www.D2L.org.
From April 22-26 and Leading up to Healthy Kids Day®--a national initiative to improve the health and well-being of kids, the Y will promote the 5 Days of Action. Five Days of Action focuses on preventing child sexual abuse by sharing tips on how adults can prevent child sexual abuse.
During April and all year long, the Greater Valley YMCA encourages adults and organizations in the community to play a vital role in making the Lehigh Valley a safer place for children. This year’s Five Days of Action theme is “Know. See. Respond.”
When adults know how abuse happens, see the warning signs, and respond quickly to prevent abuse, they foster a culture of child abuse prevention. Together, we can bring awareness to the issue of child sexual abuse in our communities and have important conversations around how we can all work together to prevent it from happening.

Households across our community have different needs so we offer a variety of membership types. Each of our locations offer many different programs, schedules, and classes therefore offerings and fees may vary by branch.
Every day, we work side-by-side with our neighbors to make sure that everyone, regardless of age, income or background, has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive. At The Y, no child, family or adult is turned away due to an inability to pay.
Financial assistance awards are assessed on a case by case basis during a one-on-one, confidential session with a staff member. Those interested in applying for our financial assistance program are encouraged to download this form, or stop in to any of our branches to learn more and pick up an application.
